Uses

Software I use, gear I love, and other things I recommend. Researching gear is my favorite form of procrastination. Here's a list of my favorite things.

Hardware

13" MacBook Air, M1, 16GB RAM (2020) - The M1 chip makes a difference. Since I do most of my work in the cloud, I don't need the most powerful workstation

Logitech MX Master - Better than any trackpad. You can move between mac window spaces seamlessly

Keychron K3 Ultra-slim Wireless Mechanical Keyboard - Slim mechanical keyboard with hot-swappable switches

Software for Solo Projects

Cloudflare - I use it for DDoS protection, DNS, and caching static assets. Plus it allows me to avoid paying AWS $$$ in egress fees. I love it so much, I invested in the company.

AI Tooling - My choices change as often as the field does. Currently I'm using Cursor Pro and Claude Sonnet 3.5 the most.

TailwindCSS - I'm no frontend master, but I can use Tailwind to make things look less bad. AI makes this a lot easier.

SaaS Tech Stack - The rest of the stack varies. Often I'm using Golang, HTMX, SQLite, and just enough JavaScript to get the job done.

Outdoor Gear

Hyperlite Mountain Gear Elevate 22 Backpack - The best backpack for long days in the mountains. It's waterproof, narrow for climbing, and rolls down small when it's not full

Arcteryx Sun Hoody - When UV is strong, like on a high altitude glacier, a lightweight hoody keeps you cooler than bare skin. Who knew?

Freeride Ski Setup - Black Crows Draco Freebird skis, ATK Hy binding, Technica Zero Pro Tour boots. A true 50/50 setup.

Howlin Wool Sweater - You don't need to wear ugly synthetic midlayers! A 100% wool sweater is slightly heavier but looks far better.

Norda 001 Trail Runner - I used to tear up trail runners in under 3 months. These are the most durable ones that I've found.

Camera Gear

Fujifilm X100vi - Lightweight mirrorless camera for videos and photos. The built-in ND filter was the deciding factor for me.

Insta360 Action Camera - The last thing you want to think about when hanging off a cliff by your fingertips is framing your action shot. Film 360 degrees and crop later

Peak Design Phone Tripod - I rarely have a tripod but I always have my phone. This nifty device attaches to the back of the phone case. Combine it with the BlackMagick app for videos that don't like they were shot on an iphone.

Travel Stuff

Outlier Strong Dungarees - I used these exclusively as my only non-exercise pants for two years. They are what jeans wish they could be

Peak Design Wash Pouch - organizes toiletries and has a hook for hanging on towel racks

SURI Electric Toothbrush - sustainable electric toothbrush.
